On October 26, the Spartan Girls marked their first State Team Championship win, making their ninth State Tournament appearance a historic one at The Nielsen Tennis Center in Madison. The second-seeded team triumphed over top-rated Arrowhead, the two-time defending Division 1 champions.
Junior Caroline Raster led the charge with her victory at the #1 singles flight after placing fifth at the WIAA State Individual Tennis Championships the previous week. Also victorious were Sophomore Lily Sun and Senior Yukiko Mitchell, who conquered their singles matches at the #2 and #3 flights, respectively. The Doubles team of Shriya Pusunuru (Sophomore) and Cece Bonfilio (Freshman), clinched the team win with a 6-4 victory.
The road to the championship required wins against Westosha Central (6-1) in the quarterfinals and Middleton (5-2) in the semifinals, clearing the path to the top-seeded matchup and victory against Arrowhead (4-3).
“This monumental win is a testament to the hard work that the team has put in, but also embodies the fighting spirit and resilience that this Brookfield East Girls Tennis team represents,” reflected Coach Linda Lied. “I am so proud of these athletes and their historic win.”
Congratulations to the Brookfield East Girls Tennis team and Coach Linda Lied on bringing home the championship!
