Brookfield East Senior Payton Haugen shattered the state record on Tuesday, October 14 with a 132 total, 12 strokes (-12) under par over 36 holes - unseating the previous record of six under par (-6) with 138 strokes which she tied last year. Haugen shot a 67 on Day One of the tournament and tied the single-day record with a 65 on the Day Two. A two-time individual runner-up in both 2023 & 2024, her hopes for gold were realized and exceeded, cementing her place in state record history and helping to lift the Spartans to a second place team finish.
“Seeing Payton’s journey over these last few years has been nothing shy of amazing,” stated Coach Mike Serath. “Her gold is earned in every sense of the word, and she has been a fantastic role model for this team. I’m so proud of our golfers and their performances at a very competitive State Meet. Their efforts throughout have made this such a memorable season.”
Payton was joined by teammates Emma Holzmacher, Shivani Sharma, Talulah Pearson, and Elizabeth Zuniga-Meyer who collectively secured a second place team finish against 3-time champion Divine Savior Holy Angels of Milwaukee. As a team they shot a 641 to achieve their highest finish ever! Congratulations to Coach Serath and all of the student-athletes on an incredible finish to an amazing season!
